Warm Winter Retreats
One of the best things to do in winter is to snuggle up in front of a roaring fire. Get cozy this winter at a four season cabin or resort in one of Manitoba’s many parks. Whiteshell Provincial Park, only an hour and a half from Winnipeg, is a popular choice with its lakefront properties surrounded by snow-capped trees and rocky outcrops. Strap on some snowshoes and explore the frozen lake, then hop into your private whirlpool tub to warm up.
Pack your bags for a getaway to Riding Mountain National Park – a haven for cross country skiers, with over 20 trails maintained by local volunteers. For a true winter wilderness experience, spend the night at the wood-heated Cairns Cabin located on the Ochre River Trail that descends through the forest. Book the cabin ahead of time at the park’s Administration Building. If you’re looking for a Riding Mountain experience that requires less exertion, stay at the Elkhorn Resort, where you can take advantage of the mineral pool and full service spa that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.
For a peaceful winter retreat, spend a weekend at one of Manitoba’s bed and breakfasts. Enjoy the change of scenery, and the change of pace, at a B&B in the Interlake, Pembina Valley or Western regions of Manitoba, all within an easy drive from Winnipeg. Enjoy quiet walks in the snow, leaving snow angels along the way, and then curl up with a good book and a cup of tea.
