On Your Mark, Get Set, Go!
Whether it’s a race to first place in a fishing derby, snowmobile race or a freestyle snowboard competition, winter is no time to get off to a slow start.
A favourite fishing spot year-round, the Lake of the Prairies Ice Fishing Derby, February 23, promises lots of fish, lots of fun and even some big cash for first place. Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes is hosting a Fun Ice Fishing Day, great for the little anglers just getting the hang of reeling in their catch. Snag the biggest fish the quickest and win at the Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby, March 9.
Engage in Rail Wars (February 16) and catch some Big Air (March 16) when Assessippi Ski Area and Resort holds its freestyle ski/snowboard competition and big air (snowboard jump) competitions. Even if you’re just a spectator, you’ll be dazzled by the tricks, twirls and other mind-blowing manoeuvres seen on the hill.
The oldest continually-running snowmobile race in the world happens in Beausejour March 2-3. The Canadian Power Toboggan Championships takes places at a track designed specifically for snowmobile racing, complete with grandstands and concessions. Enter the race to see if you have what it takes, or grab a seat and a hot chocolate to cheer the racers on to victory lane.
