Learn Something New
Broaden your knowledge of what makes the people and places of Manitoba so diverse.
Learn about First Nation language, culture and heritage at the Dakota Ojibway WinterFest at Brandon’s Keystone Centre January 25-27. Take part in some of the recreational games and enjoy the full slate of entertainment, including traditional dancing and singing.
Relive the story of New Iceland at the New Iceland Heritage Museum in Gimli. Its 18-foot mural, a historical painting that “comes to life” and other multi-media museum exhibits share the history of the region’s people and nature.
Take your history lesson back a few million years and head deep into the ancient seas. Check out Canada’s largest collection of marine reptile fossils at the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre in Morden. While fossil digs are on hold for the winter, see the fossils on display at museum, including Bruce, a 43-foot long Mosasaur, who swam in the deep seawater that covered Manitoba 80 million years ago. Also on display at the museum is the world’s first public exhibition of a woolly mammoth blood component.
