Slip into comfy shoes and treat yourself to a full-on romp in this picture-perfect greenspace.

Winnipeg's urban playground for more than a century, Assiniboine Park is a delightful maze of gardens, walking and biking trails and indoor attractions.

Feed the ducks at the newly expanded duck pond and roam over to the Assiniboine Park Zoo to meet the resident bears at the International Polar Bear Conservation Centre.

Stroll through the Conservatory and English Garden and browse among the stunning artwork in the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden and the Pavilion Gallery Museum, where you'll find art and artifacts relating to Winnipeg namesake Winnie the Pooh.

Bring a blanket or beach chair to catch movies, ballet performances, jazz and classical concerts at the outdoor Lyric Theatre. Wander through the butterfly garden and nature playground with its sandy beach area and Snakes and Ladders-themed garden.

An idyllic spot for a picnic, the park is also home to a trio of eateries - the Tundra Grill at the zoo, the Park Café in the Qualico Family Centre and the elegant Terrace in the Park, a hot spot for brunch, lunch and fine dining.

In the midst of a redevelopment that will include an extensive Journey to Churchill attraction at the zoo, the park is a popular recreation area in all seasons. In winter, the duck pond is transformed into a skating rink and the towering toboggan run is a thrill hill. Go skiing, snowshoeing or hiking through the Assiniboine Forest, where if you're lucky you'll come face to face with one of the area's white-tailed deer.
