Corporate Retreat
Let’s see, what if we combine great fishing with work and call it a business trip?
For years, a group of dentists from Oklahoma have been coming to Manitoba, mixing related research with outstanding accommodations and fishing. Many Manitoba lodges are now equipped to handle these types of conferences, with meeting rooms and audio visual equipment at the ready. Depending on the size of the group you might be able to have the whole facility to yourself.
On the first morning, the dentists get together an hour before breakfast in the conference room to compare notes and set an agenda. As discussions continue, they are served a sumptuous breakfast. The morning meeting wraps up and they head down to the dock where a line of boats and guides await their arrival. Coolers have been pre-packed with the beverages of their choice and away they go eagerly anticipating some hot and heavy fishing action!
The guides suggest trophy walleye action first thing in the day, and with the fish shallow, long casts with small jigs produce non-stop action. The biggest walleye of the morning is a Manitoba master measuring seventy-one centimetres in length.
Around noon the guides pull into one of the many shoreline areas on the lake, and the fresh walleye are quickly cleaned into perfect boneless fillets. The guides have been specially trained to prepare a shore lunch like nowhere else in the world, with secret sauces and recipes handed down for generations on the menu. The shore lunch is a primary staple of Manitoba fishing, and nothing beats fresh fish cooked on the shores of a pristine Manitoba lake.
In the afternoon, the guests follow their guides’ recommendations and decide that it's Manitoba monster time – northern pike. They cautiously head along the emerging weed edges, seeking these master predators. The group slams one northern pike after another and when the anglers’ arms start getting tired, they decide it’s cocktail time and return to their five-star lodge.
Following a delicious five-course meal, some billiards and some great laughter about the day's events, the group retires to their individual accommodations, ready to start the next adventure the following morning.
