Canadian Immigration Regulations For:
Visitors From the United StatesAmerican citizens (or permanent residents) may enter Canada by land without passports and visas. US citizens, however, should carry identification papers, such as birth, baptismal, naturalization or voters certificates attesting their citizenship. American citizens traveling by airplane must present a valid passport. Foreign residents of the US must carry their Alien Registration Receipt Cards.
All Other Visitors
Visitors from a country other than the United States must carry a valid passport and,
in certain cases, a visa to be able to enter Canada.

Time Changes
Manitoba moves to Daylight Saving Time on the first Sunday of April and reverts to Central Standard Time on the last Sunday of October.
Metric Conversion
Canada uses the metric system. For example, speed and distance are measured in kilometres, goods in kilograms, and temperature in Celsius (centigrade).
Currency
The Canadian dollar is legal tender in Canada. It is divided into units of 100 cents. American currency is accepted in some establishments with a variable exchange rate. Automated teller machines (ATMs) allow users to withdraw funds from their bank account in Canadian dollars, and often with the best exchange rate.
Taxes
There is a five per cent Federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) on most purchases in Canada and a seven per cent Provincial Sales Tax (PST). Non-residents can obtain reimbursement for the GST paid on lodging and purchased goods upon departure at designated duty-free stores or by mail. Write:
