Camp Hughes (PHS) served as a training camp from 1915-1916 during the First World War. More than 38,000 troops of the Canadian Expeditionary Force trained here and fought in France, Flanders and Vimy Ridge. Training trenches and military cemetery are visible. A unique experience awaits visitors at the Mennonite Heritage Village (Canada) Inc. This 40 ac complex spreads out from a street reminiscent of the Mennonite villages found in southern Manitoba during the late 1800s. A windmill with 20 m/60 ft sails dominates the village. Century-old dwellings, church and school are furnished to the period. The Livery Barn Restaurant serves tasty Mennonite fare, from traditional recipes, in a pioneer setting. The general store offers locally crafted items, stone-ground flour, old-fashioned candy, a selection of souvenirs. A Métis settlement since 1822, it was the centre of the early events connected with the Red River Resistance of 1869-70. The Métis, led by Louis Riel and supported by Father Noël-Joseph Ritchot, decided to oppose the Canadian annexation of the West without prior consultation with the original inhabitants of the settlement. Near the church stands the Riel-Ritchot monument, dedicated to the two men most responsible for the success of the resistance that led to the founding of Manitoba.

Originally established in1983 the Birdtail Country Museum now consists of two buildings situated side by side on main street in Birtle, Manitoba. The main building, a former Union Bank, is arranged as a bank manager's residence from the 1900's. The museum houses approximately 5000 artifacts of every kind which are well displayed throughout both buildings. Included is a huge variety of house hold items as well as military, archaeologicaland aboriginal artifacts.

Heritage North Museum consists of two log structures and an open-air blacksmith shop. See mounted animals native to the area, a boreal forest diorama with authentic caribou hide tipi, First Nations and fur trade artifacts, fossils, a woolly mammoth tusk, traveling exhibits and Inco and mining related artifacts.
